Smithfield Little Theatre presents Young Frankenstein (Smithfield)

October 24 - November 10, 2019 Thursday-Saturday at 8:00 pm, Sundays at 2:30 pm.
Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced "Fronk-en-steen") inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced "Eye-gore"), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather's. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

Join Suffolk Public Library as we host the Virginia Opera's presentation of Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears. A related craft will follow the performance. Sons of Serendip is a unique Billboard Charting quartet consisting of a harpist, cellist, pianist and lead vocalist.The quartet was a finalist on TV’s “America’s Got Talent” in 2014, gaining popularity by offering fresh interpretations of popular music. They were invited back to perform on “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” in 2019, where they received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience. Sons of Serendip has toured nationally, lighting up audiences with their creative and emotionally stirring arrangements and original compositions. Some notable performances include the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, as well as collaborations with the Cincinnati Symphony, Cynthia Erivo, and Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops.

A diary that describes odd things happening around the house- like raining indoors and talking toys! None of this could be real, could it? Join CTHR this October for an exciting new play full of silly, colorful characters, on a family vacation that gets even weirder than expected! What’s the worst that can happen when the imagination literally runs wild? Find out when you open the Toy Box!... but let’s open it together, okay? “Toybox” offers enough tomfoolery and terrific fun for any tot! Just in time for Halloween. #VBSTRONG - A Healing Arts Community Event (Virginia Beach)

Healing takes time. Over 150 days after the tragic shooting at our City’s Municipal Center, Zeiders American Dream Theater invites the community to come together for this FREE Community Event to draw strength and healing through the power of The Arts. Interactive arts activities, as well as community arts & therapy resources, will be offered in The Z’s Main Stage Lobby. The event will then culminate in a performance in The Z’s Main Stage of dance, music and spoken word by local contributing artists. Arts Partners to offer activities include The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Muse Writers Center and The Vibe. WHRO, as media partner, is promoting the event. And Angela Phillips Yoga Studio will be offering guided breath work.

Celebrate 100 years of the Attucks Theatre  (Norfolk)

Oct. 4 and 5, the historic Attucks Theatre will continue its celebration of the anniversary of its founding with the 100th Anniversary Community Celebration. The two-day celebration will add a community element to the Attucks Centennial celebration by inviting local artists and organizations to showcase the history of the Attucks and the various roles it has served in the community throughout each decade. The 100th Anniversary Community Celebration is hosted in partnership with the Attucks Centennial Commission, Crispus Attucks Cultural Center, Norfolk Public Library, SevenVenues and the Virginia Arts Festival. The 100th Anniversary Celebration kicks off Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. with entertainment in the style of the 1920’s and 1930’s at the Attucks Theatre. The celebration will continue Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Attucks Park located at the corner of Church Street and Virginia Beach Boulevard with an Arts in the Park celebration featuring various incubator groups that once held residence at the Theatre. The event will conclude Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Attucks Theatre, with performances highlighting musical performances throughout the decades, focusing on the 1940s-1950s.
